The Chef Mom

It Happens to the Best of Us

So I had a pretty big mom fail on Tuesday. Bryce has been extra fussy this last week, I’m not sure if it’s the formula bothering him (I stopped pumping so it’s been 100% formula this week) or if it’s just that he’s barely a month old and still adjusting to life outside the womb. Either way, he’s required a lot more of my attention lately; crying a lot and not wanting to stay down for his naps unless he’s in my arms.  I was sitting on the couch with Bryce and Ayden was on the floor two feet away playing around with a blanket.

He had the blanket over his head so he couldn’t see anything. I don’t know if he was pretending to be a ghost or what but all of a sudden I heard a loud BANG and out of the corner of my eye I could see that Ayden had banged himself, VERY HARD against the corner of the wooden coffee table.

My Life Began When I Became a Mother

I came across this quote today for #motivationmonday that says “If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you”.  I know it could be said of many things but what I can relate it to most is motherhood.  Tonight, on the eve of my first son’s 5th birthday, I can’t help but reflect back on the last 5 years of my life. How my life has changed and how I’ve grown as a result of the biggest challenge of my life; becoming a mother.

Bryce’s Birth Story

If you read my two other blog posts you’ll know that I was pregnant with my second child.  For the most part my pregnancies were similar.  I was very sick for a good part of it, tired, achy, the works.  But one of the biggest differences was that I hardly gained any weight; only 8 lbs to be exact.  Now, before you get jealous, I gained about 60lbs with my first baby and didn’t really lose it so it was 8lbs on top of an already obese body.  But nonetheless I was happy not to have gained too much.

My first labor was so difficult.  37 hours of labor including 2 1/2 hours of pushing, vomiting, and endless pain despite having an epidural.  Needless to say I was not looking forward to doing this again but many moms of more than one children assured me it was better the second time around.

Those moms were right so I thought I would share my experience with you.

Pregnancy is Hard

Ya know, being pregnant is really hard. In case you didn’t read my first post I am 18 weeks pregnant with my second child. Im not one of those people who enjoys being pregnant. I know that may seem controversial to say, but it’s true. And honestly I think people who say they love being pregnant are just kidding themselves. Or lying because they think that’s what they’re supposed to say. I think a lot of people feel ashamed to share their true feelings.

A Little About Me

My name is Christina and I am a mother. Well let me go back. I’m more than a mom. I’m a daughter, a wife, a friend. But most of the time people just call me Mommy. It’s funny how that works. After you have kids everything changes, including your identity. Everyone at home calls me Mommy now and not just my kid. I knew things would be different but I didn’t prepare myself for how different. I was never really one of those people who went clubbing and partied every weekend so that’s not what I mean when I say different. It’s obvious that your day to day life will change. But what I’m talking about is that feeling deep in your gut when you look out into the world. How you SEE the world. Your reason for living. It all changes.

Christina E. Peña

About Me

Hi everyone! If you're new here my name is Christina. I am a 35 year old mother of 2 beautiful boys, Ayden and Bryce. I've been married to my highschool sweetheart, Noelby, for 10 years and we have built a beautiful life together. I lost my mother to COVID-19 on April, 24th, 2020. The reason I mention this is because I feel that this traumatic experience has changed me and shaped who I have become. I don't think I'm particularly special, but I did graduate from culinary school and will be sharing delicious recipes as well as lightened up versions, as I am currently on a very long health and weightloss journey. THANKS FOR BEING HERE AND BE WELL!
